Q. Why should a Filipino woman be recognized as Phenomenal? A. Because we are creating, just one among many others', a process by which we can be proud about where we come from, about our nationality and our heritage. We need to be aware that our ancestors, our lineage of Lolos and Lolas, and theirs, are still watching, waiting and willing for our successes and triumphs. While we do this for ourselves, we are also making a stand against ignorance, prejudice and stereotypes. We are creating a tool by which other Filipinas can see for themselves how broad their horizons can be and what the possibilities of their lives can reach out to. Q. Why do we have to be proud about other Filipinas and about being Filipina here online? A. The Internet is both an extension of and a tool for our real lives. And so we Filipinas need to support and uplift each other and ourselves online. We also have to make sure that WE represent ourselves on the Internet---we can't be complacent and continue to let others do it for us with narrow compositions of stereotypes, mature content sites and commercialized services. This type of representation doesn't do justice to the expansiveness of who Filipinas are. Our individual identities and Filipina collective identity are part and parcel to the whole of Filipino identity, in the Philippines and around the world. Q. What are the requirements for a Filipina to be listed at PhenomenalFilpinas.com? A. The main requirement must be that the Filipina as someone who is more than just a beautiful face and body, and that her true source of power comes from within. Q. Why is this the main requirement? Q. Is character and personality be part of the criteria? A. It most certainly is. We share our ideal personality traits of any women, Filipina and otherwise, who is truly phenomenal on the homepage. Q. Where did you get the idea to start this website? A. The BagongPinay site, www.newfilipina.com, formerly had a section called Ang Galing Niya!(trans. She's Good). Phenomenalfilipinas.com is a branching off of that section into a more extensive and separate web site. There is a need for more web sites that represent Filipinas in all their diversity and varying successes. See more info in the about page.
